What is a check valve?

The check valve lets water leave and prevents it returning. When its flap jams — commonly on a shard of glass or a fruit sticker — the machine either will not drain or refills itself with waste water from the sink line. It is part of the full drain path that should be cleared as one job, along with the filter, the pump and the drain hose high loop.
