What is a megohmmeter?
Tests insulation resistance to ground, finds elements leaking current that trip breakers only when hot.
A megohmmeter applies a high test voltage to measure insulation quality, revealing leakage paths an ordinary multimeter misses. The classic case is a dishwasher or dryer heating element that has cracked. Cold it tests perfectly, but once hot it leaks current to ground and trips the breaker mid cycle. An insulation test finds that fault where a continuity check says everything is fine.
