Appliance manufacturers overwhelmingly use hex-head screws, and a nut driver drives them faster and with far less damage than pliers or a socket on a ratchet in tight spaces. A 1/4-inch and a 5/16-inch will open the majority of American appliances. It is the single most-used hand tool in the trade and costs very little.
