⚠️ BEFORE YOU START

Kill the dishwasher’s breaker AND close the under-sink stop valve before starting. The valve sits behind the kick panel next to line-voltage wiring.

Tools

  • Nut driver
  • Adjustable wrench
  • Shallow pan + towels
  • Phone camera

Parts

  • Inlet valve for your model

Step by step

  1. 1 Power and water off

Breaker off, under-sink dishwasher stop valve closed. Verify the panel is dead.

  2. 2 Remove the kick panel

Two to four screws under the door. The inlet valve is at the front left or right where the braided supply line arrives.

  3. 3 Disconnect with a pan underneath

Photo everything. Wrench the supply line off the valve (water will follow), squeeze the clamp on the outlet hose, and unplug the wire connectors.

  4. 4 Swap the valve

Unscrew its mounting bracket, transfer to the new valve, and reconnect hose, wires, and supply line — snug, not brutal, on the brass fitting.

  5. 5 Leak-check before the panel goes back

Open the stop valve, watch the connections through a full fill cycle, then reinstall the kick panel.

GE GDT550PYRFS notes & error codes

Rinse aid is not optional on modern dishwashers and an empty dispenser is behind a huge share of "not drying" calls. Check it before quoting anything — it is free and resolves the complaint more often than any part.

🔧 WHEN TO CALL A PRO

No fill with a new valve means the float switch or control isn’t calling for water — quick meter work for a pro, guesswork without one. If you'd rather skip it entirely, find a dishwasher repair pro near you →
