What is a door boot?
The flexible rubber seal between a front-loader’s door and drum — the part that goes mouldy and leaks.
The boot seals the gap between the tub and the door opening while still allowing the tub to move on its suspension. Its folds trap water, detergent residue and lint, and if the door is kept shut between washes it never dries, which is how front-loaders earn their reputation for smelling. Boots also tear where an underwire or coin works into the fold. The single best piece of advice for any front-loader owner is to leave the door ajar.
