What is a safety valve?

The safety valve exists so gas can never flow into an oven that has no ignition source. It opens only when current through the igniter reaches a threshold proving the igniter is glowing hot. A weakening valve needs more current than a healthy one, which quietly eats igniters, so if a new igniter fixes the problem for a few months and it returns, measure the current rather than fitting another igniter.
