What is a safety valve?
The gas valve that only opens once the igniter proves it is hot enough to light the gas safely.
The safety valve exists so gas can never flow into an oven that has no ignition source. It opens only when current through the igniter reaches a threshold proving the igniter is glowing hot. A weakening valve needs more current than a healthy one, which quietly eats igniters โ so if a new igniter fixes the problem for a few months and it returns, measure the current rather than fitting another igniter.
