What is an evaporator fan?
The fan that blows cold air off the evaporator into the compartments. When it dies the fridge warms but the freezer stays cold.
The fresh food compartment gets its cold from freezer air moved by the evaporator fan. If the fan stops, because the motor failed, or because ice has locked the blade, the freezer stays cold while the refrigerator side warms up, which is the single most recognizable fault pattern in refrigeration. Open the door and listen. On most models the fan should run with the door switch held in.
