What is an evaporator fan?
The fan that blows cold air off the evaporator into the compartments; when it dies the fridge warms but the freezer stays cold.
The fresh food compartment gets its cold from freezer air moved by the evaporator fan. If the fan stops โ because the motor failed, or because ice has locked the blade โ the freezer stays cold while the refrigerator side warms up, which is the single most recognisable fault pattern in refrigeration. Open the door and listen: on most models the fan should run with the door switch held in.
