Electric Cooktop Burner Repair Cost
One burner dead, only works on high, cycles erratically, or a coil burner sparks at the connection. On coil tops the fix is trivial; on smooth glass tops the element or its switch swaps from underneath.
National averages for independent repair companies. Service-call/diagnostic fees ($75–$150) are usually applied toward the repair. Costs vary by brand, model, and city.
What causes it — and what each fix costs
Coil element or receptacle
Coil burners literally plug in — swap the coil first ($15–$30), then the receptacle block if the new coil wobbles or sparks.
Radiant element under glass
Smooth-top elements are replaced from below the (removable) glass — bigger part cost, same idea.
Infinite switch failed
Burner stuck on HIGH regardless of the knob = the switch, and that’s a burn hazard — fix promptly.
Repair or replace?
Repair — burner parts are cheap. A cracked glass cooktop surface, though, runs $300–$600 and usually isn’t worth it on an older range.

We'll quote you on hauling it away — or buying it.
Not every oven & range is worth repairing, and we'd rather tell you that than sell you a repair. If you're replacing it, we'll give you a free quote either way: scrap pickup for a machine that's finished, or a cash offer if it still has life in it. Working units, recent models and premium brands are often worth real money.
Common questions
A burner only works on high — dangerous?
Yes — that’s a failed infinite switch and it will scorch pans and can start fires. Stop using that burner until the $25 switch is replaced.
