What is a sealed system?
The closed refrigerant circuit, compressor, condenser, evaporator and drier, that legally requires certification to open.
The sealed system is the refrigerant loop itself. Opening it requires EPA Section 608 certification, recovery equipment and the ability to evacuate and weigh in a charge. Most "needs freon" calls are not sealed system faults at all but fans, frost, dirty condensers or door seals, all far cheaper. A competent technician exhausts those before piercing anything, because once the system is opened the repair is committed.
