What causes it — and what each fix costs
Worn suspension rods (top-loaders)
The #1 cause of banging on Samsung, LG, GE, and Whirlpool-family top-loaders. Rods are sold in sets of four.
Worn shock absorbers (front-loaders)
Drum slams during spin ramp-up. Replace as a set.
Machine not level / feet
Free fix. Level side-to-side and front-to-back, lock the feet, and make sure all four touch the floor firmly.
