Drain pump
Won’t drain, hums, stops full of water. The most common washer repair in America.
Lid lock / door lock
Won’t start, flashing lock light, door stuck.
Shift actuator / drive parts
Won’t spin or agitate on modern top-loaders.
Water inlet valve
Slow fill, no fill, or fills while off.
Suspension (rods or shocks)

Repair or replace?
The trade’s rule of thumb: if the repair costs more than half the price of a comparable new machine AND the washer is past half its expected life (10–14 years for most, 20+ for Speed Queen), replace. In practice that means almost everything except bearings, transmissions, and boards on old machines is worth fixing.
