Gas Dryer Igniter & Valve Coil Repair Cost
Gas dryer runs with no heat. Watch the burner tube (many models let you see the glow through a peephole with the lower panel off): no glow → igniter or its circuit; glows bright then shuts off without flame → gas valve coils. That glow-no-flame pattern is the classic coil failure.
National averages for independent repair companies. Service-call/diagnostic fees ($75–$150) are usually applied toward the repair. Costs vary by brand, model, and city.
What causes it — and what each fix costs
Gas valve solenoid coils
The coils weaken with heat age and can’t hold the valve open. Sold as a cheap two- or three-coil kit; the most common gas dryer heat repair.
Igniter cracked
The glow bar is brittle silicon carbide and cracks from vibration or a careless touch.
Flame sensor
Reads the igniter’s heat to sequence the valve; fails less often than coils.
Repair or replace?
Repair. All three parts are cheap and gas dryers commonly run 15+ years. Because it’s gas, we recommend a pro unless you’re confident working around a live gas line.

We'll quote you on hauling it away — or buying it.
Not every dryer is worth repairing, and we'd rather tell you that than sell you a repair. If you're replacing it, we'll give you a free quote either way: scrap pickup for a machine that's finished, or a cash offer if it still has life in it. Working units, recent models and premium brands are often worth real money.
Common questions
Is it safe to run a gas dryer that won’t light?
The valve won’t open without the ignition sequence, so unburned gas isn’t flowing — but if you ever smell gas, shut the supply valve and call your utility or a pro immediately.
