Noisy Dryer — Rollers, Idler & Bearing Repair Cost
Squealing, thumping, grinding, or a rhythmic scrape while tumbling. Dryer drums ride on rollers or slides — all cheap wear parts sold in maintenance kits.
National averages for independent repair companies. Service-call/diagnostic fees ($75–$150) are usually applied toward the repair. Costs vary by brand, model, and city.
What causes it — and what each fix costs
Drum support rollers flat-spotted
Thump-thump-thump that speeds up with the drum. Replace all rollers, not just the bad one.
Idler pulley squeal
High-pitched squeal from the belt tensioner.
Drum glides / slides worn (front-support designs)
Scraping at the front bulkhead as metal contacts metal.
Rear drum bearing
Grinding from the center rear; common on GE and Samsung designs.
Something in the drum seam or blower
Coins and bra wires slip through and rattle in the blower housing. Sometimes a free fix.
Repair or replace?
Repair. A full maintenance kit (rollers + idler + belt) installed runs $150–260 and typically buys years of quiet.

We'll quote you on hauling it away — or buying it.
Not every dryer is worth repairing, and we'd rather tell you that than sell you a repair. If you're replacing it, we'll give you a free quote either way: scrap pickup for a machine that's finished, or a cash offer if it still has life in it. Working units, recent models and premium brands are often worth real money.
Common questions
Is a noisy dryer dangerous?
A seized roller or idler creates friction heat next to lint — don’t run a grinding dryer unattended. Fix it promptly.
