Mechanical cold control failed
The dial-thermostat’s sensing bulb loses charge and lies to the compressor circuit. Classic on older top-freezers.
Thermistor drifted (electronic)
A $15 sensor reading a few degrees off makes the whole fridge misbehave; boards get blamed for it daily.
Air damper stuck
