Inverter board (variable-speed compressors)
On inverter-compressor boxes (most LG/Samsung, newer Whirlpool), a separate inverter drives the compressor and fails more often than the compressor it drives. Much cheaper than a compressor — verify which one it is.
Repair or replace?
Repair on anything premium or under ~8 years. The inverter-vs-compressor distinction matters enormously: a $300 inverter board saves fridges that were misdiagnosed as needing $900 compressors.
