Microwave Turntable Not Turning Repair Cost
The microwave heats normally but the glass plate sits still, leaving cold spots in the food.
National averages for independent repair companies. Service-call/diagnostic fees ($75–$150) are usually applied toward the repair. Costs vary by brand, model, and city.
What causes it — and what each fix costs
Roller guide or support ring worn or missing
The cheapest possible fix — the plate sits on a plastic roller ring that wears out or gets thrown away during cleaning.
Turntable coupler or drive hub stripped
The small plastic coupler between motor and plate strips its splines. A few dollars, and easy to reach from inside the cavity.
Turntable motor failed
A small synchronous motor beneath the cavity floor. Inexpensive as a part, but reaching it means opening the cabinet on most models.
Debris jammed under the plate
Food and grease build up under the roller ring until it seizes. Costs nothing but a proper clean.
Repair or replace?
Check the free things first: lift the plate out, clean underneath, inspect the roller ring and the coupler. Those three account for a good share of non-turning turntables and cost between nothing and about $30. If the motor itself has failed, a paid repair only makes sense on an over-the-range or built-in unit.

We'll quote you on hauling it away — or buying it.
Not every microwave is worth repairing, and we'd rather tell you that than sell you a repair. If you're replacing it, we'll give you a free quote either way: scrap pickup for a machine that's finished, or a cash offer if it still has life in it. Working units, recent models and premium brands are often worth real money.
Common questions
Can I use the microwave with the turntable not turning?
It will still heat, but unevenly — you will get hot edges and a cold middle. Stirring or turning the food halfway through works as a stopgap.
Is the roller ring something I can replace myself?
Yes, easily. It lifts straight out of the cavity, and replacements are widely available for a few dollars. This is one of the very few microwave repairs that is genuinely an owner job.
